Emulate Beyond Reality

One platform for your validation, research, and development that replaces traditional analogue test benches (dynamometer). Building up your testing environment free from complex technical components and subsequently potential risk, and where multiple motor characteristics are emulated and available at user configuration without implementing any tangible motors.

Test With One Single System by ActionPower

Simulating Various Motor Types Dynamically in One System

Electrical and dynamic characteristics of real motors ranging from types such as PMSM or induction motors are replicated in one single system in response to, as the DUT, the inverter's control signals with equivalent voltage, power current, torque and back-EMF behaviours.

User-configured emulation allows breaking the physical boundary and limitation of a real rotating machine to drive the virtual motor until the worst and most extreme conditions to validate against the control unit's performance and capability.

Emulate with Programmable Rotor Position Signals

Programmable configuration of key parameters including pole pairs, gain factors for sine and cosine signals, offset angles and rotor channels replicates the behaviours of real resolver sensor with simulated phase shift and initial angel deviations.

Simulator can reproduce various resolver fault conditions, including excitation signal open/short circuits, modulation signal errors, amplitude anomalies, and sin/cos phase errors, enabling comprehensive validation of drive and inverter systems under both normal and fault scenarios.

Real Operating Power-Flow Sequence Reproduction

Integrated battery emulation functions achieves at system level the complete operating scenario simulated as if a real electric drive train where power flow is bidirectional with both AC and DC flow between MCU, motor and and battery.

FAQs about Motor Simulation

›What is a motor simulator?
A motor simulator is a test instrument that emulates the electrical characteristics and dynamic behavior of a real motor, enabling controlled and repeatable testing of inverters and motor drives without a physical rotating machine.
›Which motor types can it emulate?
Typical models include permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), induction motors (IM), and brushless DC (BLDC) motors; users can configure parameters to represent each type as needed.
›What are the advantages over real-motor testing?
Higher safety (no high-speed rotation), better repeatability (identical conditions across runs), lower energy consumption with regenerative capability, and reduced reliance on large mechanical test rigs.
›What are the main application scenarios?
Traction inverter and motor drive validation, HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) development, EV powertrain R&D, energy recovery studies, and joint testing of battery–inverter–motor systems.
›Can it simulate fault conditions?
Yes. It can reproduce abnormal conditions such as phase current imbalance, back-EMF distortion, sensor offset/phase errors, and other disturbances to validate protection strategies and safety functions.
›How fast is the dynamic response?
High-performance motor simulators typically achieve sub-millisecond current/voltage response, supporting rapid transients like torque steps, load changes, and speed ramps required by modern drive testing.
›Can it integrate with other test equipment?
Yes. It commonly integrates with battery simulators, electronic loads, grid simulators, and HIL platforms to form a complete power electronics test environment.
›Which parameters are configurable?
Configurable parameters typically include pole pairs, phase resistance and inductance, flux linkage, inertia, friction, torque constant, and control-related settings such as speed/torque limits.
›Does it support regenerative energy handling?
Many motor simulators are bidirectional and support regenerative operation, feeding braking energy back to the grid to reduce operating costs and heat dissipation requirements.
›What is the typical power range?
Power capability commonly ranges from a few kilowatts to hundreds of kilowatts and can be scaled to megawatt levels via modular parallel architectures.
